in your neighborhood and the plan (and/or positive steps already taken)
to meet this challenge with a positive vision for the future. Explain
how the association would utilize the prize money. Judging criteria for
selection include member involvement, initiative, planning effort, degree
of success or what was gained, and the overall project effort. Judging
will be done by the NRC Board of Directors.
Judging criteria for all subcategories includes the following: 1. Description of Project - member involvement, initiative, planning
effort, how well description explains project, and degree of success of
what was gained. COMMUNITY SPIRIT CATEGORY LIST The MAYOR'S AWARD for Neighborhood Improvement: This award is to recognize community efforts that visually improve the neighborhood. Entry form should include how many hours spent on the preparation and actual activity; explain how the project was accomplished and how it will be maintained. (Include before and after photos, if applicable.) Judging will be done by the Mayor of San Antonio. The JUDGE'S AWARD for Neighborhood Activity: This award is to recognize successful neighborhood activity efforts such as crime prevention, social events, fundraisers, etc. Examples include: National Night Out, raffles, graffiti clean up activities, block parties, neighborhood garage sales, and welcome committees activities. Judging will be done by the County Judge of Bexar County.
Categories are listed below by the number of current/paid association members. Indicate on the entry form which category reflects your association. Judging criteria for selection include use of space, attractiveness (may include pictures & graphics), correct spelling and grammar, and how well the content reflects the neighborhood and the association's purpose and goals. Judging will be done by representatives from Express-News, Prime Time Group, and La Prensa. Submit three sets of three different issues of the association's newsletters within the last 12 months. All entries must be submitted in one large clasp envelope with completed entry form indicating the applicable category stapled on top of the envelope. In addition, three extra copies of the entry form should be submitted. Entry forms MUST include the percentage of newsletter preparation and distribution done by volunteers, paid workers, and/or a management company. This item will be highlighted for the judges' consideration. NEWSLETTER AWARD CATEGORY LIST Category 1 = Mandatory (Homeowners) Associations
Two categories available: custom-designed websites OR template websites (i.e. NeighborhoodLink). Judging criteria for selection include website design (user friendly, functionality, links), content (usefulness, message clarity, grammar), and originality (uniqueness, vision). Judging will be done by the NRC Sponsors. Submit three sets of screen prints from three different "pages" or "views" of the association's website within the last 12 months. All entries must be submitted in one large clasp envelope with completed entry form stapled on top of the envelope. Entry form MUST include the website address, number of hits per month, the name of the website coordinator, and the percentage done by volunteers, paid workers, and/or a management company. This last item will be highlighted for the judges' consideration.
This award is to recognize an outstanding neighborhood youth activity with a neighborhood or homeowner association. Examples include neighborhood scholarship programs, youth graffiti activities, or other community service project involving youth or youth groups in partnership with a neighborhood or homeowner association. Judging will be done by the NRC Board of Directors. All entries must be submitted on a white tri-fold 3' X 4' display board. A completed entry form should be stapled on the left section and the name of the association (in big letters) on the top of the center section. A second completed entry form, which is not attached to the display board, must also be submitted with the entry. All pictures should be labeled. All activities depicted must occur between May 2003 and May 2004. This award is to recognize an outstanding individual who has contributed leadership and/or commitment to the community. The winner will be recognized with a plaque. The winner will also be invited to speak at a future NRC event. Judging will be done by the NRC Board of Directors. Nominations must be submitted by essay and can be submitted by the nominee or someone else. Essay must be prepared on 8 1/2" by 11" white bond paper, and be one page, one-sided, double spaced, with 12 pitch. Essay should be stapled with completed entry form on top. The essay should include the name and phone number of the nominee, nominee's current and past activities, and why they should be chosen for this award.
